Italy
A theocracy where the first definition of an individual is by standing in their church. When one receives a religious honorific title, they will use it in place of their name. To live in Italy, and not participate in the church is to become a pariah. Individuals may choose one, many, or all aspects to worship, but worship must be given. Italy boasts the greatest power of divine artifacts within Europe, although such relics are largely sheltered away for times of dire need.
In times of war, Italy makes heavy use of the crossbow - a weapon highly potent in a peasant's hand with minimal training required, supported by heavily armed, elite infantrymen forming professional mercenary companies.
