The One

In the Old World, there is only one recognized god, known as The One Above, The One Beyond, or simply The One.

The One has a number of different aspects that are worshipped independently of him. None directly pray to The One, merely his aspects. Some devote themselves entirely to a single aspect, some worship them all, others, simply follow the ones as they are relevant within their life.

The One, and his aspects, do not directly speak or interfere. Stories tell that his influence is felt through long chains of cause and effect, with no definitive sign of divinity.

Divine power is channeled by faith, not necessarily directly given by a deity. Combined with the deities either inability or unwillingness to interfere, this can result in two priests of the same aspect having wildly differing views on what is right, or should be done, and both with the divine power to back their word.

The One Above has eight major aspects that are recognized just about anywhere in Europe, with hundreds or thousands of minor aspects. Some respect the minor aspects as true divinity, some believe they are lesser, or not even real at all.

The One, and his aspects are said to be impossible to display, to visualize, and simply follows a reality considered impossible to conceive.

The major aspects are:

The Warrior
The Aspect of the warrior is said to be a nine armed figure, with nine swords wielded by each arm. Some interpret The Warrior as a guardian, and protector. Others, a destructive force of slaughter.

The Judge
Interpreted as both a fair, and just balancer of scales, and as an uncaring tyrant of law.

The Creator
The aspect of life itself. At it's best, the giver of all blessings, at it's worst, the creator of all disease, every monstrous beast.

The Final Shroud
The aspect of death. The inevitable end to all. The aspect of Death claims not just mere life, but represents death of all things. Ideas, love, dreams. Everything that begins is life, everything that ends is death.

The Healer
The closer of wounds. It is through the gifts of The Healer that sickness is able to be recovered, that a cut can close, and heal with time.

The Spark
The Aspect of Divinity. The Spark is magic, in its most pure form, and those with the ability to wield magic are said to be gifted with a glimpse of the Spark. A great debate exists, some believe that only divine magic comes from The Spark, and that arcane is a corruption of it. Others believe that all magic originates from The Spark.

The Smith
The aspect of change. Some consider only a physical change to be following his aspect. To change a forest to a farm, a rock to a sword. Others claim that The Smith represents societal change as well. To change from strangers to friends. From a collection of dwellers to a tight knit town.

The Wanderer
The aspect of the wanderer is said to lead the faithful to new roads, whenever they have taken their final step. Some believe that the new world was created by The Wanderer when the last cave of the old was explored. Some believe The Wanderer deals only with life, others believe that it is The Wanderer that guides your soul after death.
